THE DANCE ARTISTES FORUMS
Lagos is a vast state, and the need to reach dancers in all the communities of Lagos needed to be resolved by the Ugonwa D. Obiayo Esq’s administration.She proposed the establishment of Dance Artistes Forums in order for her administration to be able to relate with Lagos State dance practitioners, all the way to the grassroots. Dance Practitioners are enjoined to identify with the Dance Forum within the community they reside, that way, they are better able to be part of the development and impacts going on within their environment, as a result of the profession.
The following GONDP Dance Artistes Forums have been activated, namely;
- Bariga Artistes Forum (BAF)
- Ajegunle Theatre Arts Forum (ATAF)
- Surulere Artistes Forum (SAF)
- Lagos Island Dance Artistes (LIDA)
- Ketu / Kosofe / Mile 12 (KKM12) Forum
- Oworonshoki Dance Community
- Badagry Dance Forum
- GONDP-Ikorodu Dance Forum
- Alimosho Artistes Network
Still in the pipeline of being activated are;
- Ojo Dance Forum
- Amuwo-Odofin Dance Forum
There are Coordinators who through the guidance of the Guild, oversee the affairs of each forum and the admission of dance practitioners into their fold.
DANCE DISCIPLINES
Apart from creating great choreographic pieces or performing same, dance is actually a multidisciplinary profession which can allow a practitioner specialise in whatever field they aspire to, and with the righttraining, be it formal or informal, a dancer can get certified to practice any discipline in dance.
