History
GONDP, LAGOS STATE CHAPTER The Guild of Dancers is the first Guild to be chartered by the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) under the Land Perpetual Act of 1960, Cap of the Federation of Nigeria. The Lagos State chapter is one of the existing fifteen state chapters and is also the Headquarters of the Guild. The Lagos State Chapter is functional with aneight-man advisory council, over one hundred recognises and / or registered dance companies and over two thousand registered dance practitioners who constitute it’s membership force. GONDP Lagos is driven and focused on developing the Lagos dance industry in relation to the production of creative ideas, with particular interest in dance creation, exhibitions and impartations, aimed at impacting the world and bringing about total reformation. GONDP Lagos also regulates every matter pertaining to dance and dancers welfare within Lagos State. It’s powers and those of it’s executives are clearly stated in the Guild’s Constitution. For the benefit of coordinating and maintaining a balance between the Guild and it’s members, a monthly Congress is held every “LAST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH at the Guild’s Secretariat situated “BEHIND CONOIL FILLING STATION, ERIC ROAD, SURULERE, LAGOS. The Lagos State Chapter of the Guild of Nigerian Dance Practitioners is vibrant, colourful and loaded with creative and dedicated dance practitioners whose works and personalities help to create a dynamic, yet unique Lagos Dance Industry. Lagos dance practitioners are a rare breed of ingenious creatives, who have over the course of time, shown resilience to challenges, adapted to changes and set trends for other creatives to follow, but most of all, we stay true to the spirit of dance.

To establish an enabling environment where dancers can thrive in the art and business of dance, while enjoying the benefits of their creative works, without fear of artistic deprivations.

OUR VISION

To champion a drastic revolution in the dance profession, that would cause an impactful chain reaction, and bring about synergy of systems, stability in structure and standard in dance practice, for the Guild and the Lagos Dance Industry.

Achievements

Through the years, the Guild has achieved so much. The following achievements are attributable to GONDP Lagos

  • Creation of Dance Artistes Forums, thereby establishing GONDP in communities within Lagos.
  • Activation of an1 professional Website.
  • Introduction of the Lagos Dance Summit as a platform for conversations about dance and the welfare of dancers.
  • Introduction of the LAGOS Dance Festival as a platform for dance workshops, showcasing different dance styles and celebrating dance creativity .
  • The Investiture of “Dance Affiliate” (DA)” on deserving dance practitioners who have been exemplary in dance.
  • Starting in June 2024, the introduction of an Annual Dance Competition to spur dancers to be extraordinary
  • Starting in December, the introduction of an annual Award event to honour high achievers in the Lagos Dance industry.
